In some eastern traditions the moon represents Consciousness. There are a couple of songs on the CD inspired by those traditions. Here is Jane Hirshfield's translation of Izumi Shikibu's poem, which inspired a song and circle dance called No Part Left Out. Watching the moon at midnight Solitary, mid-sky I saw myself completely No part left out. Izumi Shikibu 10th Cent. Japan translated by Jane Hirshfield |

Out Beyond That Road
If you feel like settling in for a while, here's an entire 8 minute song. Based on a Rumi poem, it took me three years to write. I began work on it just after 9/11, when Rumi's poem, "out beyond ideas of wrong doing and right doing there is a field, I'll meet you there" kept running through my mind and heart. (This is a "rough mix", meaning volume levels of voices and instruments, tone and eq will be adjusted in the final CD version.) Out Beyond That Road
based on poem by Rumi additional lyrics c K Hannan No colors in the world, just black and white You were wrong and I was right But I won't go down that road no more I won't go down that road no more We knew in our hearts when the towers fell We can make a heaven, we can make a hell And I won't go down that road no more I won't go down that road no more I know that out beyond that road there is a field Out beyond that road there is a beautiful field When the soul lies down in that grass the world is too full to talk about Even words like 'you' and 'me', don't mean nothin' when we get down in that field In that field of the heart Out beyond that road there is a field Where the heart does not need to ask Love I'll meet you in that field In that field of Love ...........Saraswati Devaya Namaha
....Divine Mother of Creativity, Learning, ..........and Awakening, I bow to You |
