...........The Work of Byron Katie
..........................&
..........a little Singing & Dancing
The Workshop ~ May 1st & 2nd 2015
In this unique workshop, we will investigate our stressful thoughts using Byron Katie's powerful Self-inquiry process, which she calls "the Work".
I will demonstrate the work with some individuals, we will do some work in pairs, and we will do the work as a group in "inquiry circles" on some commonly held beliefs.
In between the inquiry sessions, to keep our bodies moving and to celebrate the joy of the open heart and mind that results from looking within, we'll do a little singing and simple circle dancing. You are welcome to sing and dance or simply to listen.
The workshop is open to those with no experience in the Work or in music, and it is open to those with lots of experience. We will all learn from everyone in this situation.
The Work
To do the simple inquiry process brought to the world by Byron Katie,
one starts with a stressful thought, such as "She should listen to me."
We put that thought up to The Work, which is the 4 questions and "turnaround" below. The Work is done as a meditation, so take your time
with each question, listen deeply, and wait for the answers to arise from the silence inside your heart/mind.
"She should listen to me."
1. Is it true?
2. Can you absolutely know that it's true?
3. How do you react when you believe that thought?
4. Who would you be without the thought?
Now turn the original thought around to it's opposites, and find genuine
examples of where the turnarounds are as true or truer for you than
your original thought.
In this case some turnarounds would be:
1. She should not listen to me.
2. I should listen to her.
3. I should listen to me.
Why I Love Sharing The Work
Using this process for the last 12 years has had a profound effect on my
ability to enjoy life, to enjoy other human beings, and to trust in who I am at the deepest level. I love sharing the Work because it is beautiful and liberating to be with people as they deeply question their stressful thinking and discover who they are as their thoughts dissolve. And I'm looking forward to adding music and dance to the workshop so that our bodies and singing voices can express the openings of our minds and hearts! I hope you'll join me on May 1st & 2nd in this adventure of Self inquiry and Music!
Love, Kathleen Hannan
