Songs for Our Journey 10

After the last Dances of Universal Peace gathering in Durham, NC,
I had a late night conversation with some people who are students
of A Course In Miracles. We were sitting in the dark on the front porch of the Friends Meetinghouse where we had just danced and sung all night.   The possibility of a song/dance based in some of the lessons of A Course In Miracles was raised, and I said I'd love to give it a try.

The little I have read in the Course has always been coherent with my own experience and with the teachings of my favorite spiritual teachers.  So I was interested to see what would arise if I turned my attention that way.

One thing that happened was that Dan May, who was one of the friends on the porch, posted this next sentence from the Course on his Facebook page a couple of weeks after we spoke.  "In my defenselessness my safety lies."   I was very moved by this, as it is exactly the opposite of what my personality habitually believes.  So I knew right away that I wanted that line to be in the song. I also have always loved the two sentences that introduce A Course In Miracles.   "Nothing real can be threatened.  Nothing unreal exists."

Soon this little song was born. There's a dance with it too, which I have posted down below the lyrics.  I've found the words to be calming and helpful in reminding me that what my mind creates is an imagined commentary on reality, not reality itself.  It reminds me also that stressful thoughts are really defenses, and that without them, despite my ego's fears, I am a whole lot happier.  And that is a
wonderful thing to be reminded of.

Dan May leads a study group in ACIM every Sunday night at Unity Center of Peace on Seawell School Road in Chapel Hill at 7:30 pm.

Peace To My Mind
lyrics © A Course In Miracles
melody & dance © K Hannan 2015

Peace to my mind
Let all my thoughts be still
God is with me
I live and move in God
In my defenselessness my safety lies
Nothing real can be threatened
Nothing unreal exists

Herein lies the peace of God
